Personal information is information that may identify you, such as your name, your home address, telephone number, date of birth, your personal e-mail address, credit and debit card information, and purchasing preferences, among other things. (1) Collection of Information over the Telephone

At the point-of-sale, you may be asked for your telephone number or postal code, if permitted by law. You may decline to provide this information. SD collects your telephone number for the following purposes: to aid in returning a product; to provide products, services and product information tailored to meet your needs; and to send samples, special offers, manufacturer's rebates and invitations to workshops and clinics. SD collects your postal code to understand what neighborhoods SD is serving and the purchasing interests of those neighborhoods. This allows SD to provide customers with a more personalized experience when visiting SD.

If you use a debit or credit card for any of your purchases, SD collects your payment card-related information necessary to complete each transaction. In addition, SD collects and retains information to comply with laws requiring SD to retain financial records of its activities. The provider of your debit or credit card may also require that SD retain this information in the event that you dispute an item or report your debit or credit card lost or stolen. SD also collects this information so that it can process a request to return an item or to provide a refund or exchange.

When you visit SD website at, SD provides you with the opportunity to become a registered user. SD may use third party companies to authenticate and validate the information you provide to SD. Your registration information is merged with information provided by the third parties for marketing purposes. The information you provide while visiting is also combined with marketing research and may be used to determine informational and shopping preferences.

SD may also collect information during your visit to a SD website through Automatic Data Collection Tools, which include cookies and other commonly used information-gathering tools. These tools collect certain standard information that your browser sends to its website such as your browser type and language, access times, and the address of the website that directed you to the SD website. The information SD collects from its commercial sources may be used along with the information SD collects from you when you visit a SD website. For example, SD may compare the geographic information acquired from commercial sources with the IP address collected by Automatic Data Collection Tools to derive your general geographic area in order to provide you with information or promotions relevant to your geographic area.

If you choose to purchase products online from, you will need to provide the following information so that we can fulfill your order:

  • Shipping Address
  • Email Address
  • Credit or Debit Card Account Information

We use this information for the purpose of fulfilling your order. Your order information will also be used to track and analyze shopping trends. This analysis allows SD to provide the highest quality products and services possible.

We do NOT sell to third parties under any circumstances the personal information you provide to complete your order. We request a phone number in case one of our Customer Care representatives would need to reach you, such as in order to arrange a delivery.

We request your email address because we send a single email message acknowledging receipt of your order. This message contains a list of the items you purchased, a reference number, delivery method and the total amount of items requested, but it does NOT contain your credit card number.

B. Other Uses of Personal Information

In addition to the specific purposes described above, SD may use personal information to:

  • Identify customers and to establish and maintain a relationship with them;
  • Provide customers with ongoing service, including to process orders, to complete deliveries and to better assist customers when they visit or call us;

(1) Service Providers, Agents and Third Party Uses

SD retains service providers, agents and suppliers to deliver products, services and customer solutions. These parties also assist SD with marketing and communication initiatives. SD service providers, agents and suppliers provide SD and its customers with the following offerings: credit card processing, customer support and live-help, e-mail service, automated data processors, marketing efforts and shipping of products and information. SD policies require that service providers, agents and suppliers be required by contract to keep confidential the information received on behalf of SD and not use or disclose it for any purpose other than to carry out the services they are performing for SD.

(2) Foreign Affiliates, Service Providers, Agents and Third Parties

SD may process and store your personal information at a SD facility or a facility of an affiliate of SD. In addition, some of SD service providers, agents and suppliers are located outside of Canada. While your personal information will be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, SD policies require that information processed or stored outside of Canada or used by service providers, agents and suppliers outside of Canada are always subject to protections comparable to those required under the applicable laws of Canada and will not be disclosed to third parties except with consent or as set out in this Privacy Statement.

C. Disclosure of Personal Information

SD will not sell, rent or lease your personal information to third parties.

Except as described in this Privacy Statement, SD will not disclose the personal information you provide to SD to non-SD affiliates, partners or third parties without your permission, unless to: (i) respond to duly authorized information requests of law enforcement and governmental authorities; (ii) comply with any law, regulation, subpoena or court order; (iii) help prevent fraud or to enforce or protect the rights and properties of SD or its subsidiaries; (iv) protect the personal safety of SD employees, customers or third parties; (v) assist in collecting any debt owed by you; or (vi) other such disclosures that are authorized, permitted or required under applicable law.

In the event that all or part of SD assets are sold or financed or if SD were to merge with another company, personal information in possession of SD could be disclosed to the lender, buyer or merging partner, provided such personal information were to be used in strict compliance with the SD Global Privacy Policy and this Privacy Statement.

Children's Privacy

SD does not knowingly collect information from persons under the age of 18 over the internet. SD does not target its websites to children under 13. SD encourages parents and guardians to take an active role in their children's online activities and interests. If SD determines that personal information has been provided by a person under the age of 18 in violation of this Privacy Statement, SD will delete that information as soon as practical. If you become aware that such information has been provided by a person under the age of 18, please so the information can be deleted.

Retention and Security

SD retains personal information for as long as it is necessary to process related transactions, maintain appropriate financial and audit records, protect SD legitimate business interests and for as long as may be required by applicable laws.

Your Choices

A. How SD Obtains Your Consent

You provide your express consent to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with this Privacy Statement when you voluntarily provide the requested information. You may also withdraw your consent to the continued use of your personal information collected during your online application for employment by deleting all information in your profile.
